Program Description: The main reasons that many of us in our community do not begin our family trees is the doubt, is finding information possible? Are resources available? And if they are what is available? And if it is available, how much is it going to cost me?  In this program, we will go over the following:

  • Four Steps on How to Start Genealogy Research
  • Types of Documents in Hispanic Genealogy and the information they can provide.
  • Terms universally found in the documents that can help navigate the documents.
  • Tips and Cautionary Tales
  • FamilySearch and its Resources, and other free to little cost resources, such as Public Libraries and Genealogical Societies.
  • Specific Resources for Cuba, Dominican Republic & Puerto Rico

Bio: Irisneri is a Professional Genealogist with a Certificate in Genealogy Research from Boston University.  In seeking her own family history, she discovered how empowering and healing, reclaiming your own family history and reconnecting to your roots can be. For the first time the grandmother she never met, became real to her and she was able to meet her through the documents. She founded Descubre Tu Historia with the hopes of helping more people in her community to do the same. While she does help others by doing the research for them, she is also passionate to speak and highlight the resources that many are not aware of that are out there for free or very little cost and highlight the importance our Public resources, such as Pubic Libraries. Also, she shares her own tips on how to start their research and how to navigate Hispanic documents.
