Denise Lewis Patrick is the author and editor of over 30 books, including the American Girl titles "Meet Cecile" and "Makena: See Me, Hear Me, Know Me." She has written including picture books ("Ma Dear’s Old Green House"), beginning readers ("A Girl Named Rosa"), middle grade chapter books ("Finding Someplace"), young adult fiction ("A Matter of Souls"), historical fiction ("The Adventures of Midnight Son") and nonfiction ("Mahalia Jackson, Freedom's Voice").

Born in Natchitoches, Louisiana, she is a graduate of Northwestern University and has over 40 years of experience in the children's publishing industry. Through her experience writing and editing, teaching college courses, and working in afterschool programs for new authors, Denise Lewis Patrick has had a major impact on children's literature throughout her lifetime.
