Announcement Regarding Transition to LMxAC (8/2/2023)

Clark Public Library has joined a shared library services consortium called LMxAC (Libraries of Middlesex Automation Consortium) and will be transitioning to this new system on Thursday, September 28th.

LMxAC is a consortium of more than 40 libraries and branch locations, spanning Middlesex, Monmouth, and Union counties, including the neighboring communities of Cranford, Scotch Plains, and Fanwood.

After Clark has fully transitioned to LMxAC, Clark residents will be able to reserve items from any of the 40+ LMxAC libraries (including Middlesex College), and have items sent to Westfield Memorial Library for checkout. This will expand the number of books and other items that Clark residents have access to, from around 82,000 currently to more than 3 million!

This will also expand our offerings of eBooks and eAudiobooks via Libby by Overdrive. Additionally, all valid Clark library cards will be automatically accepted at all 40+ LMxAC libraries.

Membership in LMxAC will also bring new technology services including a mobile app LMxPRESS, which Clark residents can use to find books, reserve items, and even use as a digital library card.

This should all come as good news. However, in order to make this transition, there will be several temporary service impacts that everyone should be aware of.

Schedule of Service Impacts

Starting Friday, September 15th:

  • Placing new holds on items (current holds will stay active)
  • Adding new library materials to our catalog

Starting Friday, September 22nd:

  • Adding, revising, or renewing library cards
  • Limited checkouts until Thursday, September 28th.

Thursday, September 28th:

We will go live with our new system on Thursday, September 28th. All services that were temporarily suspended will be reinstated, including requesting items through interlibrary loan, placing holds, applying for and renewing library cards, and returning items. But we ask for your patience as we launch this new system, and troubleshoot as necessary. The library will be open 2:00 to 9:00 PM on Thursday, September 28th.
